Ben Affleck Wins Charity Poker Tournament
Celebrity, Hollywood super star and good poker player, just won charity poker tournament during the Democratic National Convention. Ben won “Poker at the Ballpark”, which was hosted by Poker Player’s Alliance (PPA), during the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
The charity poker event was held at Coors Field on Tuesday, in Colorado, and the grand prize, benefited the Paralyzed Veterans of America. The PPA covered all bills. PPA paid $500 buy-in for every player, they paid for place at Coors Field, they paid for poker tables and they paid for bar.
There were other celebrities who were attending this event, like for example Sarah Silverman, Richard Dreyfuss and Montel Williams, were playing with poker pros Andy Bloch and Barry Greenstein.
At first, before the event, everyone was pretty skeptical about Ben win, but imagine, he won such pros as Andy Bloch and Barry Greenstein. Ben Affleck also won a seat to World Series of Poker 2009 Main Event. Though I don’t think he needed this seat that much, I think he could have afforded that by himself and $60,000 were raised for “Paralyzed Veterans of America” organization. But I suppose it will be very interesting to watch, if Ben Affleck will go to WSOP 2009 Main Event.
By the way similar tournament will be held next week, during Republican National Convention (cough).
I could only say that PPA done a great job, thanks to them poker is progressing.I really hope they will organize similar events in neat future, I mean with donations to charity organizations. As to Ben Affleck, he proved, that celebrities can play poker too.
Want to play with Ben Affleck at one table? I heard he was a big fan of online poker too, so maybe it’s your chance to play poker with him? I heard he hangs out at HollywoodPoker site.
